Finally, the whole country celebrated the festival of lights with great zest illuminating thousands of electric lamps, embracing each other offering sweets, exploding crackers in the endless sky.  While the whole country seemed occupied in celebrating the festival with their near and dear ones our ‘Real Heroes’ of the society unlike others were planning to go for the sleep. Hardly very few of us acknowledge the hard work of the rag pickers, cobblers, rickshaw walas, and kids selling toys at traffic signals while others never comes into the picture and remain occupied laboring twenty four hours to earn their bread.This Diwali I along with one of my friend “Anmol Bhatia” went to the vicinity of my place to celebrate the festival with these hard workers who sit in isolation on the footpaths empty handed and barefoot. I collected them and offered the sweet boxes. Moreover, with their heart and soul they took pledges to keep their surrounding neat and clean to promote the Swach Bharat Campaign and promised to stop the intake of drugs so as to avoid any health issues for them as well as for their coming generation. The experience of joy that we had while celebrating Diwali with them was completely blissful and much more exhilarating than burning thousands of crackers hampering the environment.

The smile that lights up their faces at our unexpected gesture was more illuminating than a 1000 electric lamps. It was a beautiful and peaceful Diwali for us to donate all these stuffs to those who are less privileged but deserve the love, respect and celebration as much as we all do. The experience of joy that I had after meeting them was completely blissful. It is sad to see their poignant condition, though at the same time it gives you a sense of contentment making these souls happy when you can contribute a bit from what you have been blessed with.
