World Health Day (April 7)- Stay Fit, Beat Diabetes

World Health Day is globally observed on April 7 every year to unfurl and proliferate the awareness of the various prevailing health issues. In 1948, World Health Organization conducted the first World Health Assembly and then since 1950 all Member States of the World Health Organization started celebrating the day under the sponsorship of World Health Organization. The day has a huge significance as various international, regional and local events are organized by WHO on the Day related to a particular theme. This year WHO is focusing on ‘Diabetes’- a largely preventable and treatable non-communicable disease that is rapidly increasing in numbers in many countries. As per the WHO estimates about 350 million people in the world are suffering from diabetes, with the disease the direct cause of some 1.5 million deaths. So, on this day let’s scale up prevention, strengthen care and enhance surveillance regarding this disease. Diabetes can be controlled and managed if we follow the medical advice, engage in regular physical activity and consume a healthy diet.
